A poster of histological stains has been produced to help pathologists in the selection of the most suitable stain for various tissue types. It shows the properties and applications of 15 common histological stains in alphabetical order, with both the abbreviated and full names. Micrographs show how the stain should look when correctly used in example tissues and a map shows the location of these sample tissues in the body. A table explains how the stains colour different cell types and sub-cellular structures. The poster can be obtained free of charge.
