Cryo-electron Micoscopy Symposium at UCLA

The two-day Advanced Electron Microscopy in NanoMedicine Symposium from Friday, Oct. 2—Saturday, Oct. 3 at the California NanoSystems (CNSI) at UCLA brings together researchers from academia and industry to discuss cryo-electron microscopy, or cryoEM, an important new imaging tool with major applications for nanobiology and nanomedicine, particularly for understanding viruses and other macromolecular complexes. Researchers can use cryoEM to visualize a broad range of assemblies and nanometer-scale structures in three dimensions — from molecular to atomic resolution.
Organized by the Electron Imaging Center for Nanomachines (EICN) , a newly established CNSI core lab, the symposium will also serve as a venue for the public unveiling of the top-of-the-line Titan Krios cryoEM and Titan (S)TEM microscopes in the EICN lab.

Dynamic Microscopy meets GPCR Dimer Research 2009

From October 08 to 10, 2009 the Bio-Imaging Center at the University of Würzburg, Germany invites you to the annually Dynamic Microscopy Workshop. This year, the Workshop will be held together with the GPCR Dimer Symposium. Like in recent years, the goal of the workshop is to introduce and present some of the most modern microscopy techniques to a multi-diciplinary audience of microscopy enthusiasts from the medicinal and natural sciences and also for both the beginners and the advanced. There is no fee for the workshop or symposium. Registration is required.

Senior Metallurgical Engineer and Engineering Manager Dr. John Tartaglia of Stork Climax Research Services will be presenting a seminar titled “Aspects of Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis,” on August 21, 2009 at Stork CRS in Wixom, Michigan, US. The seminar will be offered in either a morning (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) or afternoon (1:30 PM to 4:30 PM) session. Both sessions will be followed by optional tours of the laboratory facilities. Spectroscopy Meeting

Thermo Fisher Scientific will hold its 2009 Spectroscopy User Meeting from September 14-15, 2009 in Stratford, UK. The event will cover an evening applications workshop on September, 14 and a free of charge scientific programme on September, 15. The scientific programme will feature talks from spectroscopy instrument users. In addition applications specialists will be providing an update on recent advances in the use of infra-red, near infra-red, Raman and UV spectroscopy. There will also be the opportunity to see current generation spectroscopy systems in operation and see how sample handling and data analysis tools have changed over the years.

Euro-BioImaging: First Stakeholder Meeting

From September 21-22, 2009 the first stakeholder meeting of Euro-BioImaging will take place at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany. The goal of Euro-BioImaging project is to establish a pan-European imaging infrastructure for biological and medical research. It will provide access to state of the art imaging technologies, training and a continuous development of imaging research technologies. The aim of the stakeholder meeting is to gather eminent representatives of the scientific community, funding and governmental organisations, and industry with particular interest in biomedical imaging and to discuss potential participation as well as the content and structure of this infrastructure project. Nanotech Europe Moves to Berlin

Nanotech Europe 2009, an annual conference and exhibition on nanotechnology will be held in Berlin, Germany from September 28-30, 2009. The event offers a broad, interdisciplinary overview of nanotechnology, and the opportunity to meet and discuss with the field’s top scientists and international companies in the nanotechnology community. The fifth Nanotech Europe has a broad scope, covering leading-edge research, industrial applications and cross-cutting topics including electronics, photonics, materials, health and bio, instrumentation, energy as well as safety and investment. First Taiwan AFM Bioworkshop

Asylum Research, in conjunction with the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), will host the first Taiwan AFM Bioworkshop to be held July 30-31, 2009 at NHRI, Zhunan Campus, in Taiwan. The workshop will combine talks from leading researchers and industry experts on atomic force microscopy for life science applications, as well as instructional AFM demonstrations. Topics covered include principles of AFM, biological imaging, force spectroscopy, integration of AFM and optical microscopy, sample preparation, application examples and future directions in AFM. The event is free to all researchers in the field of AFM.

International Light Scattering Colloquium
